Bracknell Deliver at Lee Valley
Many Congratulations to 7 Bracknell athletes who competed at Lee Valley last weekend in the English Schools South East Regional Round of the Combined Events . The South East being the strongest Region from around the country .
Between them over the 2 days they acheived no less than 25 personel bests , 2 new club records with Charlie Ashdown - Taylor and Nathan Standing automatically qualifing to represent Berkshire and Hampshire respectfully at this years English Schools National Finals in Exeter in September.
Others waiting to see if they have qualified for the extra 9 places which are offered to next highest ranked athletes once all of the results are in from the 6 regions around the country . Despite the 3 lot's of the thunder and rain sun shine on the Saturday our athletes stayed focused , relaxed , prepared well and supported each really well through out the weekend as well as enjoying themselves and the pb's started coming from the 1st event of the weekend. None of this would be possible with out all the encouragement they got from very supportive parents and friends. I have to say during the 800 and 1500 it sounded like a home match with the support coming from very noisy parents positioned at different parts of the track. As well as the support our athletes get from our coaches in the specialist events that make up the various combined events in training.
Nathan Standing competining in the Senior Boys Decathlon for Hampshire this being made of 10 events acheived pb's in the 100 metre's 12.3 sec , Shot Putt 9.30 , = pb in the Pole Vault of 2.50 ended weekend with a total of 3939 points which was another pb. Congratulations Nathan for the way you applied himself over the weekend and helped Hampshire become Champions. Earning himself a place in the final.

Charlie ended the weekend as runner up in the Octathlon and earning a automatic place into the finals.
Sam Russell who had been to this event in previous years supporting his brother Ben and other athletes from the club. Got his opportunity this year being selected to represent Berkshire after his performance in the Berkshire Schools.
Like all the other athletes Sam was up for the challenge from the start. Achieving pb's in the discus with 24.46 metre, 400 mere 55.5 secs, High Jump 1.58 metre , 100 metre hurdle 16.5 secs and Octathlon pb of 3588 points. Finishing the weekend in 13th position .

Joel Cable competed in the Junior Boys Penthalon achieving pb's in the shot 11.04 metre , 800 metre 2.30.6 as well as Penthlon total points score of 2159.
Joel ended the day in 12th postion. While Joel waits to hear weather he has done enough to earn one of the 9 places left.
We all wish him well when he competes for Berkshire in English Schools Track and Field Championships in the Under 15 Boys Javelin, in a weeks time.
Natasha Bennett and Orla Breslin were our 2 girls competing in the Junior Girls penthalon team .

Oral like Connie getting a last minute call up , just coming back to training this week after illness . Competed well all day starting her day with a excellent 75 metre hurdles to finish with a time of 13.1 only 1/10th of a sec out side her pb , terrific effort . Orla's gutsy run in the 800 metre helped the Berkshire girls end the day as runners up.
Many congratulations to all of you in the way you all applied yourselfs, through out the 2 days. We all know there is so much more to come from you all in the future . Keep training smart , keep enjoying your athletics.
